Santiago Achaval and Manuel Ferrer, one an attorney and the other, a pilot, partnered with Roberto Cipresso, an accomplished Italian winemaker to produce some of the world’s best wines from grapes carefully cultivated in the finest fincas in the region. Tour of the Winery
Perhaps a victim of its own success, the Achaval Ferrer winery tour involves tastings of recent vintages right out of the barrels rather than from the bottles on display in the elegant tasting room; so popular they are all sold out, even for the tours. However, following Marius, our tour guide through the barrel room, the whole experience is somehow more fun, more authentic and without any pretensions as we are poured tastes drawn directly from the French oak barrels with a stainless steel “wine thief.”
